YOT Solutions is a project development and training agency specifically established to support the work of local authority youth offending teams (YOT).  Our diverse range of support which includes report writing, delivery of training events, development of in-house projects and the supply of youth justice practice tools are delivered to high standards though our dedicated and experienced staff who have extensive fieldwork experience of working within the youth justice system .

Our recent projects include the provision of practice and preparation support to organisations prior to inspections, the development and delivery of in-house practice forums and the creation of information leaflets to explain the various elements of the youth justice system to parents and young people.

Recent research undertaken by the National Youth Agency (NYA) has reinforced conclusions that ‘participation’ can improve outcomes for young people, practitioners and YOT services.

Following the NYA study in 2010 the Local Government Association funded a partnership between the NYA and YOT Solutions to develop a practical resource for use by YOT’s to support the participation agenda. This partnership has resulted in the development of the ‘VIP’ (Voice + Influence = Participation) resource.

‘VIP’ is a facilitation manual containing  a series of practical, discussion and presentation based activities deliverable in-house by YOT’s in team meetings and contact sessions with young people to advance the voice and influence of young people in shaping their service.

learning styles

The importance of understanding the preferred learning styles of young people is well documented and recognised as an essential factor in determining the methods we utilise in engaging young people in the youth justice system. We have created a concise and simple to use self-assessment tool for young people made up of 6 questions/ scenarios each with 4 preset responses linked to 4 learning styles to which young people are asked to apply preference scores and establish their learning preferences & strengths.

We offer a series of training events to support YOT staff in their work to understand best practice and engage in effective work with young people.

YOT’s can choose from a selection of topics relating to specific offences or practice areas.  Additionally we can develop and deliver a bespoke event around a subject area of your choice.
